3/10 – American Rumba L1-PC: with Frankie (Latin Dancing)

  • First Class at 7 PM on Monday Night, March 10th.DESCRIPTIONDevelop an understanding for the foundation of all Latin dancing with a popular, romantic couples dance, appropriate for weddings, ballroom parties, nightclubs, and more. Usable for a wide range of musical styles — the American Rumba is one of the most practical and enjoyable dance there is to learn!HISTORYThe Rumba is made up of several dances that were popular in Cuba, including the Guaracha, the Cuban Bolero, the Cuban Son, and the Rural Rumba. The Rural Rumba is more an exhibition dance than a participation dance and depicts the movements of barnyard animals. The Cuban Bolero and the Cuban Son on the other hand are moderate tempo danced in a traditional ballroom style and lastly the Guaracha is characterised by its fast, upbeat tempo. All these dances have similar rhythms but in styling, the American Rumba closely resembles the Cuban Son and the Cuban Bolero.PREREQUISITES

    None. A perfect dance for absolute beginners.


    6 Week Sessions: For students age 15+. No Partner Necessary. Tuition: $75 for the entire 6 week course must be paid up front for entire 6 week session to SSBC. Drop-in classes are subject to instructor placement and $15 per person, per class. FIRST CLASS is Monday, March 10th, 2014. Class will start at 7 PM and run for an hour.
